What is the Web Competition?
It is a competition run bi-annually by the Oxfordshire Branch of the British Computer Society for schools in Oxfordshire. Schools compete for the impressive "Schools Computing Challenge Cup", as well as many other desireable prizes for both individual team members and their school. Prizes awarded in previous years have included PCs, software, MP3 players, and Micro Vaults.
We hope that the competition will give you a chance to
- create or improve a web site,
- learn some new skills,
- have some fun taking part,
- be recognised for your skill and hard work.
You can enter even if your school is not yet connected to the Internet.
We will accept web pages created locally and not part of an internet web site.
You can use your own ideas for the content and subject of the web pages, and you may be able to combine the competition with other projects you are covering as part of the National Curriculum.
What do we have to do?
You must build a website (or a section of one). The idea of the competition is for teams to show creativity and teamwork, and to produce a site which is both interesting, attractive and useful to its rel audience.
How can we enter?
Details will be announced in the autumn - so watch this space!
Your school will be provided with further information, and the rules, in September. However keep checking back here for any "breaking news".
Who can enter?
The competition is open to teams of students in Oxfordshire primary and secondary education.
Your team must be sponsored by a member of staff.
We envisage teams of up to about six people. You are free to choose a larger team if you wish. If you win a prize you will have to decide how to share it out amongst the school or the team.
This competition could be ideal for the computer club and/or providing extension work for the more Gifted and Talented.
Where can I find more information?
This web site will be the focus for the presentation of information on the competition.
If you want to get an idea of what was done in previous years, then have a look at the summary of events which took place last time round.
