About Oxfordshire Branch

The Oxfordshire Branch of the BCS has over 800 members and holds monthly meetings from September to May; non-members are always welcome and details can be found in the computer press and on the web.

The Branch has in the past

  • Run competitions for schools and sponsored prizes
  • Distributed booklets on careers in IT to schools
  • Attended careers conventions when invited by schools
  • Taken part in the Neighbourhood Engineers scheme and assisted the Oxford Trust
  • Held debates on Open Source (jointly with the Oxford University Computing Society) and on the usefulness of ICT in schools
  • As part of the BCS responsibility to the general public the Branch will continue such activities and the web competition is one aspect of this


About the BCS

The British Computer Society exists to provide service and support to the IS community, including individual practitioners, employers of IS staff and the general public. It is the only professional body able to confer chartered status in all three of the following areas: Chartered Engineer (CEng), Chartered Scientist (CSci) and Chartered IT Professional (CITP).
